Sunday Morning Not So Funny!

Will the United States be able to repair its relationship with Canada after what has and is still being done?    If so, how?

By Fred Apstein: Dual US/Canadian citizen... Currently living in Canada!

I lived in the US through the Reagan, and both Bush administrations. I didn’t agree with their way of doing things.

I think Bush Jr. and Cheney stole a lot of money from the taxpayers.

I still felt safe, and was able to travel in and out of the US with no worries.

It was possible for ordinary people to live ordinary lives.

Big corporations had too much influence, but that’s more or less normal in the US (and Canada).

There were political abuses, but everyone got a hearing and a lawyer if they were apprehended.

It was possible to elect either Democrats or Republicans, locally, and nationally.

Now, under Trump, and the people around him, things are very different.

People, including US citizens, are dragged of the streets by armed agents, with no identification, no warrants, no hearing or other due process.

Prosecution of Trumps ‘enemies’ is the new normal.

I, as a US Citizen, am afraid to visit my sisters in the US. This message, that I’m writing, might be collected, under the huge surveillance apparatus that has been created. (or shared with the authorities by an enthusiastic Trump supporter)

This kind of free speech could put me on a list of ‘people who do not support the President’s mandate’.

I could be stopped at the border, taken into custody, and disappeared.

No hearing, no lawyer. No way to contact my family.

As a US Citizen, I will never trust the US Government, or the people of the US, to be a normal, more or less civilized country again!!!!!!

The US is an empire in decline. There will be turmoil, until a new normal emerges.

The US, in fifty or a hundred years, may have split into several smaller countries, like the British Empire, or the Russian Federation

For now, things look pretty bleak.

Why would anyone want to visit, or do business, if they can be snatched up by unidentified, armed, violent thugs, and taken away?

No one is safe in the US today.

This kind of distrust and trauma is not easily forgotten!
