Why my parents left Germany after the war!

During World War II, American and British planes mercilessly firebombed the German city of Dresden, leaving an estimated 250,000 (?) people dead, most of them civilians — with bodies piling up so quickly that officials were forced to simply pile corpses in the city square and cremate them en masse for weeks on end. 

 Even after the dust settled, Dresden was largely left in ruins for decades. 

 Though volunteers quickly gathered to clear the rubble after the war, it wasn't until the early 1990s that rebuilding began in earnest. 

 The hard work undoubtedly paid off, and Dresden is now considered one of the most striking cities in the country.

Saturday Morning Confusion!

Allan: 

 On my way home yesterday, I witnessed a vehicle hit a motorcycle from behind and send the driver 25 feet into the air landing him in a ditch. 

I immediately called 911, pulled over and climbed down to stay with him until they arrived. 

He wasn’t moving and I assumed the worst. 

 A medical professional happened to be driving by and pulled over to help as we waited. 

I stayed and held Joe’s hand and asked him questions to keep him awake and with us. He told me about his wife, joked about his motorcycle and asked me to take photos so he had a cool story to tell. 

 Once EMS arrived, I backed away and a woman watching said 'I’m shocked you did all that.’ 

She saw my confused face and replied 'Honey, this is the south. I’m just saying. I’m shocked you did all that for him’ and my heart sank. I was speechless. I didn’t care what he looked like. I didn’t care how long I had to sit there. I didn’t care about social distancing. He needed help. 

 We don’t have to look the same to be kind to one another. Not a single person is born hating others because of race, political views or background. 

People learn to hate.

 Back in my drinking days the "Mrs. Herself" figured out how to get me back on the wagon!

She said that as long as I could open the cage... I could drink it!

Don't be fooled... AI is not all that smart!

 All this talk about the dangers of AI is just a bunch of bullshit!

It's only a very complicated "tape recorder" that has a clip of everything humans have ever said or done on the Internet... and then it picks and chooses answers that fit the question. (That's why it's wrong so often!!!!)

As for CONSCIOUSNESS... we shall leave that to the domain of living things! (A living thing pertains to any organism or a life form that possesses or shows the characteristics of life... or being alive)

This premise brings us to my great epiphany: "Consciousness is simply the physical manifestation of GOD (?) within us!

P.S. The consciousness/awareness of a tree will obviously not be as good as a bird or alligator... and definitely not as good as a human...........! (At least... most humans!!!!!!)

It's simple!

 At least 157 people were killed and 270 were injured last year in unintentional shootings by children, according to an advocacy group for firearm safety.

The children who pulled the trigger were most often teenagers ages 14 to 17 or children ages 5 and under, according to data which is compiled from media reports. 

“The victim is often a sibling, a cousin or a friend,” said Sarah Burd-Sharps, senior director of research 

“It leaves multiple families facing grief and regret.”

PI Day 2024

Pi is an irrational number, meaning it has an infinite number of nonrepeating decimal places. 

But it turns out, NASA scientists need only a small slice of pi — the first 15 decimal places — to solve most of their math problems. (And even when working out problems on the most mind-bending cosmic scales, they never need more than a few dozen extra digits!)  

You may remember pi from school. It's the ratio between a circle's diameter (the distance between opposite points) and circumference (the distance around the edge). Simply put, pi is equal to the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter, which means you can figure out the circumference of any circle if you know its diameter or radius (half the diameter) and pi, which is most commonly abbreviated as 3.14 — which is why Pi Day is celebrated on March 14.  

 In the book (not the movie) "Contact" by Carl Sagan, we learn from the aliens that a secret message is hidden within one of the key transcendental numbers of mathematics! (PI)

The theological implications are intriguing (the whole universe must be constructed very carefully if one of its essential constants is in fact a coded message.) 

Then, at the very end of the book, she sets her computer program -- the same one which first noticed the message from Vega -- to looking at the numerical expansions of Pi (in various different bases).
She find a long string of 1's and 0's late in the expansion of Pi in base 11. 
It's length is a product of two primes, indicating a two dimensional array. 
So, she plots it on her computer screen (each digit representing a pixel) and sees a perfect circle. 
The constant which describes the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter... contains a picture of a circle!

THEY DON'T EXIST!!!!!!!!

I spent many years thinking about... and then writing about... the effect religion has had on our society! (And how it has affected the way we think about the world in general!)

It's a three-part series, (plus a bonus book) that discusses the sociology of religion and how our individual cognizance is more closely tied to a "Diety" than most people realize! (There are some ground-breaking assumptions concerning "consciousness" in the books that put a whole different light on the nature of our awareness!) 

Whether or not you believe in God, Mother Nature, Allah, or the tooth fairy... there is a certain connection between a 'Higher Power' and our individual awareness that needs to be properly investigated by the scientific community!

Anyway, this... is what the world is coming to folks!

I'm trying to promote my books so one of the first things I wanted to do was submit them for a 'book review' at the London Free Press!

I dutifully marched down to the Free Press office on Dundas Street.. and found everything locked up tight!

Apparently, our "London Free Press" newspaper has faded away and now only exists in the ether of the Internet kids... since everybody works from home and all the phone numbers for the paper are voice mail only!

 I wish they had called that Oscar-nominated movie (video?) "Poor Thing" ...by some other name at the awards this evening!

Every time (dozens) someone said "poor thing," I thought they were describing a movie that was in the running for an Oscar!

By the time they handed out two or three of them, I was totally confused about what was going on... and I just went to play on my computer!

(That's not really me!)

 The 'Mrs. Herself' has all sorts of relatives who are in some sort of secret cabal over on Facebook... and she keeps getting family gossip that I am occasionally subjected to... and promptly forget about!

Except this last one!

She has a cousin... or nephew... or something... who met a girl who was on vacation... or something...in Glasgow and fell in love with her enough to follow her back to where she lived... ON THE CANADIAN PRAIRIES! 

(Apparently, things were going smoothly until something called WINTER set in!)

Word has it that he's now in the process of trading in the snow for a lot of rain!

Two heads are better than one!

 The Washington Post is providing this news free to all readers as a public service:

"German researchers have examined a “hypervaccinated” man they say received more than 200 coronavirus shots without any noticeable side effects or harm to his immune system."

It might not have specifically harmed his immune system folks... but otherwise, there's a lot of really wrong stuff in this story! (This guy now has both mental AND physical defects to worry about!)

Saturday Morning Confusion: My G-G-G-G-GENERATION!

We have this image of our grandparents or older relatives as being strict and righteous... but having lived through the dynamic eras of the 60s and 70s they often hold hidden depths of coolness beneath their more conventional facades. 

Remember: These decades witnessed the rise of countercultural movements and the free-spirited ideals of hippies, after all!

The experiences they gained during these transformative times could include adventures, rebellions, and a taste for unconventional living that they might not readily share. 

It’s a humbling reminder that we don’t necessarily know every aspect of the lives of the people around us and their complex personalities.

In a recent conversation with Dr. John Gartner,  a prominent psychologist and contributor to the bestselling book "The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President," the former faculty member at Johns Hopkins University told the media that based on Trump's speech, memory, recall, and other behaviour, he appears to be “hypomanic” and cognitively deteriorating at a rapid rate:

I had to speak out now because the 2024 election might turn on this issue of who is cognitively capable: Biden or Trump? It's a major issue that will affect some people's votes. Not enough people are sounding the alarm, that based on his behavior, and in my opinion, Donald Trump is dangerously demented. In fact, we are seeing the opposite among too many in the news media, the political leaders and among the public. There is also this focus on Biden's gaffes or other things that are well within the normal limits of aging. By comparison, Trump appears to be showing gross signs of dementia. 

This is a tale of two brains. 

Biden's brain is aging!
