What's with Toronto?

Why is Chicago a much better city to Toronto? 

It has cheaper housing cheaper groceries and gas and similar demographics plus better transit system. 

Why has Canada failed so totally in this regard?

Clearly you don’t have the foggiest idea about Toronto! 

Although both are abut the same size I am guessing that you have never been to either city. 

Toronto is booming city that is amongst the safest of large cities in the world. 

Chicago is basically a war zone with more murders in a month that Toronto has in an entire year. (They even tend to have more shootings on some long weekends than Toronto has in a year.) 

Also, not sure what gives you the idea that Canada has anything to do with the operation of cities. 

You should know that Canada has three levels of government. The federal level (Canada) has little to nothing to do with cities. Cities are the domain of the provincial and municipal governments.

Which US city is closest to Toronto in size and population and culture?

Well, in size and population NYC is obviously the first while L.A. is second and Chicago is third... but right behind that is Toronto and then Houston!

As for culture, we have to look to the West Coast and come up with this statistic.

San Francisco (51% smaller size, 27% less populated, but closest ethnic match.) Downtown San Francisco buildings are, on average, shorter than in Toronto!
