I think some of the other answers underestimate how deeply, deeply indoctrinated the Fox News party is. Believe me when I say my mother is a good woman, a good mother, a good Christian. Kind and decent through and through. And she believes EVERYTHING Fox News says and everything they imply. And she is not the only one in my family like that.
If the mob had murdered enough opposition to give Trumpists control of Congress, they could have, with a simple majority in each chamber, thrown out the electoral votes of PA, GA, AZ, and whatever other states they needed to give Trump the victory. The Democrats would cry bullshit, but Fox News and OAN would have kept their base solid. Democrats would mount legal challenges, but Trump would be President both de facto and de jure. Democratic Governors would do what they can, but he’d stay in office barring a civil war or a military coup.
But Trump would not have immediately declared himself “President for Life”. No, they’d all wring their hands at the criminals who had murdered so many Senators and Representatives. But he’d point out that the Democrats and Biden really brought it on themselves for trying to steal an election from the American people, who naturally rose up in righteous anger.
He’d have four more years as President, now more emboldened than ever, to work around the 22nd Amendment to stay President. The massive unrest caused by his remaining in power through such methods would just provide more chaos for him to capitalize on.
