Poor countries need vaccines too!

As of this writing, there are literally billions of people in the poorer countries of the world who will see no hope of receiving the Coronavirus vaccine for at least two or three years..., and this is a situation that needs to be fixed right away!

Not only will immediate aid for the vaccine do wonders for the people in the third world but it will benefit us as well by stamping out the pandemic as quickly as possible. (It can't get transmitted back and forth!)

The First World and vaccine developers need to get together immediately and figure out a way to supply the poorer countries with enough medicine to assure that this plague doesn't drag on for years when it could be defeated in months if everybody co-operated!

Asshole of the week!

The head of a group that organizes anti-restrictions rallies across the country has been charged again for his role in a St. Thomas demonstration – the third time he’s been cited under Ontario’s pandemic law. (Throw the book at him!)

Lamont Daigle is charged under the Reopening Ontario Act with organizing an outdoor gathering exceeding the permitted limit, his group, The Line Canada, said.

Daigle, who received a summons to appear in a St. Thomas court on Jan. 14, is the co-founder and president of the self-described civil liberties organization behind a wave of recent rallies challenging the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to these demonstrations sweeping across the province, police have charged organizers – and even participants – for violating the Reopening Ontario Act, the emergency law imposed to slow the spread of the pandemic.

“The police have been targeting all the main players in the protest,” George Roche, the executive director of The Line Canada, said Tuesday.

“We can all agree that this is unconstitutional. We have a right to peaceful assembly . . . why are the police cooperating with this?”

WELL MR. DAIGLE, YOU ARE INFRINGING THE RIGHTS OF OTHER PEOPLE TO REMAIN SAFE BY NOT WEARING A MASK YOURSELF!

Hopefully, this guy, and others like him, will have the full weight of the law come down on him!

FOX NEWS IS DANGEROUS!

I was just watching that Fucker Carlson on Fox News because it's become a habit of mine to see just how far they can twist the news... when I was absolutely gob-smacked by what I heard.

This Fucker said (in a roundabout way) that vaccines were dangerous... so don't take them... and people should go see relatives and friends because it was safe to do so!

In their roundabout way, they said that Tony Fauci had told everyone NOT to go see friends and relatives for Thanksgiving... but people did anyway... and nothing happened

A LIE, A THOUSAND TIMES A LIE! (The current spike in Covid infections is the direct result of all the holiday travelling over Thanksgiving!)

Like I said folks...., Fox News should be taken off the air before they kill as many people as Trump has!!!!!!

Most New Coronavirus Patients are Republicans!

Last weekend we had the Perspective Research Department do a quick survey of a bunch of Americans... and we were amazed to find out that 2/3 of all the coronavirus sufferers were Republicans!

What's more, if you only count the adults between the age of 20 and 60 this jumps up to 3/4 of all patients surveyed.

SO! The Corollary of these statistics means the while the Republicans have to resort to gerrymandering, voter suppression and all sorts of lying, cheating and stealing to get votes...... all the Democrats have to do is keep telling the republicans not to wear a mask!

Take this mask and shove it!

I went to Sarnia to visit my mother today and drove by city hall to look at the "anti-mask" protesters who have been gathering there every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon!

Small anti-mask demonstrations have been taking place at Sarnia City for some time, Mayor Mike Bradley says.

The mayor said a “persistent” group of between 10 and 20 people have been demonstrating outside city hall each Wednesday and Saturday afternoon in recent weeks.

The Line Canada, a self-described civil rights group has plans to hold rallies on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons in Sarnia. The group opposes restrictions imposed to slow the spread of the virus, and questions the science behind public health decisions.

Const. Giovanni Sottosanti said Sarnia police are watching the reports of a possible larger demonstration.

This is a picture taken today of Sarnia City Hall and the location of the Anti-Mask rallies!

(The reason you don't see the anti-mak demonstraters is that they are now all in the hospital with COVID-19!)

Almost ALL Covid transmission happens in 5 places!

CNN's chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, MD, says not everything has to shut down because the majority of COVID transmission happens in just five places.

1. Restaurants

2. Bars

3. Cafes

4. Church

5. Hotels

Now as far as hotels are concerned... these are the spots to be wary of:

1. Breakfast Buffets

2. Elevator buttons

3. Door Handles

4. Fitness centers, spas and pools

5. Air conditioner buttons

5. Phones

6. Vending machines

Unfortunately, not everyone has the same hygiene habits so these are the minimum precautions everyone should take!

To mask or not to mask

London police have charged three women who they say organized a rally to protest COVID-19 restrictions that drew about 200 people to Victoria Park on Sunday.

The London women — aged 36, 37 and 44 — all face the same two charges under the Reopening Ontario Act: hosting an outdoor gathering exceeding provincial limits and taking part in an outdoor gathering exceeding provincial limits.

The women face fines ranging from $750 to $10,000.

Police said they contacted the organizers before the rally to let them they know they could face charges if they went ahead.

“Regardless of whether or not the organizers were warned in advance, there have been warnings from the community and the province for many months,” London police spokesperson Const. Sandasha Bough said.

London police officers attended the rally Sunday and determined the number of people in the crowd exceeded the limit for outdoor gatherings, which is set at 25, police said. Police estimate about 200 people attended the rally.

Similar rallies have been held this fall in communities across Ontario, and in Southwestern Ontario particularly, to protest COVID-19 restrictions.

But unlike recent rallies in Woodstock, St. Thomas and Aylmer, charges followed relatively swiftly after the London event.

“Gathering limits have changed and we have reminded the public a number of times,” Bough said.

The London women are not the first to be charged in the province for organizing rallies. Hamilton police have laid charges twice for demonstrations there, Bough said.

London police do not identify people charged with provincial offences, but one of the organizers said she is a nurse at the London Health Sciences Centre.

The current cap on outdoor gatherings is 25 people, while indoor gatherings are capped at 10. Since the weekend, London police also have laid charges relating to house parties early Sunday and Saturday night.

The protesters object to restrictions such as mandatory masks and limits on gatherings because of what they see as government encroachment into the lives of private citizens.

The largest protest so far was in Aylmer, where an estimated 2,000 people turned out Nov. 7, despite the town’s mayor declaring a state of emergency.

A rally in St. Thomas on Nov. 14 attracted a crowd of about 200 and a protest in Woodstock on Nov. 15 drew about 75 people.

So far, no charges have come out of those protests.

“We cannot comment on the event as we were not part of the organizing team,” a spokesperson for The Line Canada, an anti-restriction group involved in promoting some rallies, said Wednesday.

The three women have a court date of Feb. 22 in provincial court.

Saturday Morning Confusion About Trump!

A BIT OF SATIRE FOR A SATURDAY MORNING:

Should Joe Biden suspend his campaign since the president has coronavirus?

Yes, he should!

It’s only fair that there be a level playing field in the election.

Trump and his fellow Republicans have only shown good sportsmanship so far, and Biden should do the same.

Remember how Republicans honoured Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wish to only appoint her successor after the winner of the election is inaugurated?

Or their efforts to ensure all citizens can safely and easily vote, no matter what skin colour or political alignment?

Who can forget how through bi-partisan work with congressional Democrats, they ensured all congressional districts were apportioned fairly and equally.

And how they campaigned to admit Puerto Rico and the Mariana Islands as States, so that all Americans could be represented in the Senate and the House.

They might not always see eye-to-eye with their Democrat colleagues when it comes to policy, but the Republicans’ highest commitment has always been to the American Constitution and the ideals of a fair and equitable government by and for the people.

Given Trump’s selfless and tireless service to his country, and his quick-thinking interventions that prevented the Covid-19 crisis from being worse than it needed to be, I believe Biden should at least do him the honour of not campaigning against him while he recovers.

I have no doubt in my mind that Trump would do the same for him.

Karma's a bitch!

There is a word in German called "schadenfreude" which literally means "damage joy" and figuratively translated as finding joy in someone else's misfortune!

So... news of Donald Drumpf's infection with the coronavirus was met with expressions of shock and dismay from most foreign governments and otherwise shouts of undisguised glee from the general population.

Look folks, by not wearing masks and promoting large rallys I estimate that  Donald Drumpf is personally responsible for at least 100 of the 200,000 deaths from the Coronavirus in the United States!

He has killed thousand of people for political reasons and that makes him no better than any tin-pot dictator you care to mention!

Whatever happens to Trump now is in higher hands but it's nice to know his Karma has finally caught up with him!

Good News or Bad News?

The Coronavirus pandemic marches relentlessly onward and how it is addressed varies from one place to the next!

On Monday, hours before Johns Hopkins University recorded the 200,000th confirmed American death from COVID-19, President Trump addressed a mostly maskless crowd of supporters and told them that the coronavirus pandemic "affects virtually nobody!" [sic]

The president, who has been recorded admitting to intentionally playing down the pandemic, stands out among democratically-elected world leaders for his sunny — and frequently misleading — spin on the outbreak.

By Contrast, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a gloomy forecast for his country on Tuesday, announcing that the nation has reached "a perilous turning point" in the resurgence of the virus and that new restrictions on social interaction could "remain in place for perhaps six months," with "significantly greater restrictions" to follow if deemed necessary.

While I'd obviously rather live in a country where the pandemic genuinely affected virtually nobody, we know that isn't true; Johnson's description of his country's second wave, with colder months looming, is far more accurate, and hearing him tell his people the hard truth was, frankly, refreshing.

On this side of the Atlantic, new models predict that at least another 200,000 Americans could die between now and the end of the year, while the coming flu season could further deplete resources and available hospital beds. Some best estimates — which are included in an impressive new analysis of the months ahead by the health publication STAT — predict life won't go back to any kind of maskless normal until "at least 2022," and that's if a vaccine campaign kicks off in earnest by the start of next year.

Trump, of course, has every reason to try to make things sound better than they are: he has an election to win in November, after all. But experts warn that "attempts to paint a rosier picture of the situation could make it worse," STAT reports." If politicians prematurely declare victory, it sends the message that people no longer need to wear masks or distance from others" — something that is already happening, as evidenced by Trump's guidance-flaunting supporters.

His administration rarely shares what might be considered bad news, opting instead to claim, in contradiction to CDC testimony, that a vaccine will be ready to distribute by next month. As Tom Inglesby, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, told STAT, "It's really important for leaders not to sugarcoat things when they are not going well."

Lives depend on it.

Stay away from these places!

When it comes to spreading COVID-19, not all activities are created equal. That’s according to a fascinating infographic that’s been shared on social media, charting the riskiest activities that encourage the virus to spread.

Club-goers will be sad to see the heat map suggests nightclubs are the ultimate high-risk activity, followed by seeing a concert or play, attending an indoor party, visiting an indoor bar, attending a sporting event and going to church.

Also considered high risk ― but less so than the above activities ― is attending a wedding or funeral, hugging or shaking hands, stopping wearing a face mask, going out with someone you don’t know well, visiting an amusement park and eating at a buffet.

The graphic, produced by Information Is Beautiful, the brainchild of London-based designer and writer David McCandless, sourced the information from 500 epidemiologists and experts quoted in the media.

Medium-risk activities, as suggested by the graph, include: staying at a hotel, hosting a small indoor dinner party, using a public pool, visiting a shopping center, getting a haircut, going on a plane, and sending kids to school or nursery.

Low-risk activities, however, include eating a takeout, exercising outdoors, playing tennis, playing golf, having a friend use your bathroom, going to a petrol station, older kid playdates and camping.

Other relatively low-risk activities, according to the heat map, include: going to the beach, food shopping, outdoor dining, visiting a library or museum, going away for one night (if driving), visiting your doctor, going on vacation with another family and walking in a busy town (outdoors).

The chart caveats there are factors to consider in addition to the activities. These include: how many people there are, how close the contact is between these people, how long they are exposed to each other, whether they’re indoors or outside, the surfaces (is there lots to touch?), how many cases there are in the local area and how likely they are to comply to COVID-19 rules in that area.

While the heat map is certainly intriguing to look at, Simon Clarke, an associate professor of cellular microbiology at the University of Reading in the UK, reiterates there are many factors that may determine where activities lie on the risk spectrum. “The positioning of different activities [on this map] is quite absolute,” he says.

So, it’s important to remember the factors that might make an activity more, or less, risky. An empty flight is lower risk than a full one, for example, so this could change where it sits on the chart.

Quentin Leclerc, a PhD researcher in mathematical modeling of infectious disease, previously told HuffPost UK being indoors, having people in close proximity, poor ventilation and environments that are relatively cold, seem to facilitate greater transmission of the virus. This can help explain why visiting a nightclub, for example, could be more problematic than camping ― you have lots of people crowded into a poorly ventilated space, as opposed to fewer people spread out in their own tents in an outdoor (and well-ventilated) space.

It might also be helpful to remember the three Cs, which are popular in Japan: avoiding closed spaces with poor ventilation, crowded places with lots of people nearby, and close contact settings such as close-range conversations.

In July, doctors from the Texas Medical Association (TMA) shared a similar graphic charting high and low-risk activities. Low-risk activities included opening the mail, getting a takeout, getting gas, playing tennis and camping. High-risk activities included going to the gym, eating at a buffet, going to an amusement park, going to the movies, attending a concert, visiting a sports stadium, attending a religious service with 500+ people and going to a bar.

An analysis by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) found care homes, bars, religious settings and workplaces were associated with more clusters of cases. There have also been some incidences at weddings, sporting events and conferences where large numbers of people became ill.

Natural Immunity!

It was disturbing to find out that blacks in the States were far more likely to die of COVID-19 than white people or Latinos... until you realize that a combination of poor health care and nutrition among the poorest of the population was the major cause of these deaths.

BUT!

The Coronavirus pandemic seems to have spared a large percentage of the population of Africa... and I think I know why!

Africa has got so many weird, wild and deadly diseases floating around compared to other places on the Globe that a large percentage of the people there have a better immunity to the Corona viruses. (COVID, SARS, MERS, etc.)

This is about the same as letting a child play outside to develop their natural immunity to all the nasty stuff floating around!

Don the Con strikes again!

The White House has just announced that a vaccine for COVID-19 will be ready around the end of October!

Gee, that's just a few days ahead of the U.S. election on November 3rd folks!

According to reliable scientific sources there WILL NOT be a vaccine ready by then.  This means that Donald Drumpf is going to do one of two things in the week before the election!

A. Don the Con will announce the vaccine (?) but delay distributing it until after the election.

OR:

B. Donald will use a vaccine that has not been properly tested yet. This will be widely distributed putting every man, woman and child's health, and perhaps even life, at risk!

Either way, it's another big con job for Drumpf!

School Daze!

Most of our students are either back at school, or will be back, within the next week or so.

The elementary school kids in both Canada and the U.S. will either be home schooled and/or attend classes where they will have a certain amount of social distancing... and wear face masks... to keep them safe. (I can say this with a fair amount of confidence since these kids are still young enough to follow rules that keep them relatively safe!)

However: Kids in the upper grades such as high school and college/university are at an age where they have gone through puberty and entered a mysterious realm where they are expected to behave like adults.

BUT: they will still lack any form of critical thinking until they are well into their twenties! (This is especially true for the young men since they seem to have a slower development of what we call 'common sense' than the ladies do!)

Armed with physical prowess but lacking maturity these apprentice adults will sow chaos and destruction across the land since they are not totally capable of self control yet! (This naturally includes a disregard for any precautions to  keep themselves safe from COVID-19.)

This, my friends, is what will foster continued hot spots of plague around any college or University town. This is what will continue to put the population in general at peril!

Your ever cautious servant sees no end in sight until someone comes up with a vaccine folks!

How to Prevent COVID-19

* With excerpts from the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC!

Following 46 cases of bleach ingestions in the North Texas Poison Center region since the start of August, experts are again warning people that drinking BLEACH won’t prevent COVID-19. (The organization pointed to “misleading and inaccurate information circulating online about how to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” for an uptick in poisonings.)

The FDA has long warned that drinking chlorine dioxide products can lead to “severe vomiting, severe diarrhea, life-threatening low blood pressure caused by dehydration and acute liver failure.”

The potentially deadly misinformation that drinking or injecting bleach to kill the coronavirus was amplified by Donald Trump.

The poisonings in North Texas are a reminder of the consequences of this president’s lies and misinformation.

The presidential platform is the most powerful in the world, and as the Trump has been handed two hours of primetime airtime this week for the Republican convention, it is important to remember that not only will some people believe these lies, they will act on them.

The only way that drinking bleach can prevent the coronavirus is that it will kill you... and then you don't have to worry about COVID-19.

Wearing facemasks in Lethbridge, Alberta, doesn't go over that well!

Lethbridge has started a city by-law that mandates everyone has to wear face masks at all times. (They even added a rather kinky little rule that couples who are having sex need to be wearing masks as well unless they are married and/or cohabitating!)

Opposition to this rule has been growing over the past few weeks as more and more people take someone home from a trip to the bar or some neighbourhood party.

They find out the person they just had sex with is not who they thought they were... or sometimes even an "ex!"!

To Flu, or not to Flu?

I'm not sure if this pandemic thing is starting to settle down a bit or just catching its breath for an autumn onslaught.

Either way we are not through with it yet and after three months of wind-up... and six months of delivery... this might be a good time to review our situation and talk about what we know so far!

Here is some of the latest poop from Dr. Jose-Luis Jimenez

It is critical to have a clear physical description of the ways in which COVID-19 is transmitted, so that individuals and institutions are able to visualize it and will understand how to protect themselves.

Contrary to public health messaging, I, together with many other scientists, believe that a substantial share of COVID-19 cases are the result of transmission through aerosols. The evidence in favor of aerosols is stronger than that for any other pathway, and officials need to be more aggressive in expressing this reality if we want to get the pandemic under control.

There are three possible ways the virus is transmitted, of which two have been emphasized by the WHO and the CDC

The first is through “fomites,” objects that are contaminated with the virus such as counter tops, door handles and any other surface where the little virus buggers seem to settle!

The second possibility for how COVID-19 spreads is through droplets, small bits of saliva or respiratory fluid that infected individuals expel when they cough, sneeze, or talk. Droplets—which the WHO and CDC maintain is the primary means of transmission of COVID-19—are propelled through the air, but fall to the ground  after traveling 3-6 feet.

However, droplets are less important than the third potential pathway: aerosols.

This is turning out to be the real culprit for a lot of the infection folks!

“Aerosol” (airborne) transmission is similar to droplet transmission, except that the bits of fluid are so small that they can linger in the air for minutes to hours.

To understand the scale of aerosols, the diameter of a human hair is about 80 microns, and aerosols smaller than about 50 microns can float in the air long enough to be inhaled.

The WHO and CDC both state that aerosols could lead to transmission under highly specific situations, but, both organizations maintain that they are less important.

NOW COMES THE KICKER FOLKS: Dr. Jose-Luis Jimenez says: "I believe this is a significant mistake and on July 6 I, along with 239 scientists, appealed to the WHO to reevaluate their stance. WHO updated its position in response, but the agency’s language continues to express skepticism of the importance of this pathway."

Well boys and girls, whatever the circumstances are... keep a mask on your face and your hands to yourself and you should be O.K!

The way I see it anyway!
