Allan:
Social Media. Never used it, don’t understand it, what’s it all about.
Why is everyone so needy? - As a child in the 1950’s I never heard of child molestation, homosexuals, lesbians, unmarried mothers, everyone knew who my mother was and we just got on our bikes and went off for hours on end. I used to build model planes using a boxed set of 7 cut throat razors to cut the balsa wood!. My parents would probably be given counselling.
No they wouldn’t because no-one had ever heard of counselling, if you had a problem you sorted it out. Probably most people had what is now called PTSD as the World’s worst war was only a few years earlier and most adults had suffered in that time.
As a student I do not remember anyone suffering from “STRESS”. Hangovers, yes, lack of cash yes, doing some work, well it did happen.
If you didn’t go to a University, no sweat, you got an apprenticeship or became a trainee or learnt a trade, no shame and you earned money while learning.
We didn’t worry about climate change, the environment, the oceans, there were no blogs, no fake news, no coffee shops, no MacDonald's, no food deliveries, no supermarkets, 2/3 channels on the TV (which was in Black and White) and no commercial radio. So one of the things about modern life which gets me is there is too much choice!
However instead of the above we did have to worry about imminent nuclear destruction. (see Cuban missile crisis if not sure about this)
A hanger full of Blue Steel missiles ready to be dropped on the USSR by one of these,
The British V-bombers of the 1950’s and 1960’s.
And your kids are worried about body image on facebook !!!!!!
In the 1960’s we invented Mods and Rockers together with better pop music!
No this had nothing to do with “saving the planet”
So really most things that seem to worry young people are almost entirely alien to me, it does seem a shame that they appear truly worried about things that earlier generations never had any worries about, as they were too busy being worried about more basic needs.
Me, I never got beyond level 2, it seems today’s youngsters need a new level “Self image”, how to appear good on Facebook”
Ba, humbug !
