I was just reading an article about the "Future of Electric Vehicles" and ran across some problems that are centered around the availability of stuff for the batteries!
One major roadblock going forward, however, is that lithium mines are beginning to garner the same ill-tempered response as drilling for oil.
According to CNN, America’s largest lithium deposit resides in Thacker Pass, Nevada.
Unfortunately, four environmental groups — representing everything from the pygmy rabbit to the sage grouse — are opposing its mining. Nor is the Thacker Pass deposit the only lithium repository facing resistance.
Environmentalists are trying to stop another mine in Nevada because it is the home of Tiehm Buckwheat, possibly the least consequential plant on the planet.
Essentially, everyone wants lithium mining as long as it’s NIMBY — not in my back yard.
This whole thing reminds me of the time here in London when they wanted to put the Adelaide St. road extension through a big open field down in the south end and the project was scrapped because it disturbed some frogs or flowers....., or whatever!
At the time I had half a mind to go and kill the frogs and dig up the flowers..., 😊but I never got around to it!
