They were welcome in the beginning. I wished them a happy, quiet, private life and they seemed to be enjoying that in Canada.
Then I heard they expected Canadian taxpayers to pay their security costs to live a PRIVATE life here in Canada. Why? They had stepped down from doing Royal duties in order to be private individuals and they certainly weren’t lacking in funds (despite their later storytelling)so I found that offensive that they expected to put their security expenses on Canadians.
Keep in mind that they were never invited by Canada to come here and they were not here as working royals. There was a poll done asking if Canadians felt they should pay their security and 90 some percent said NO. However, I also don’t expect it was ever their plan to stay here permanently…. Anyways, at that point I still wished them well and was hoping for them to achieve the quiet, private life they said they were after.
But THEN, they showed their true faces when they left for Hollywood, hired PR people to keep them in the news and basically showed that they were pursuing money and attention rather than the quiet, private life they had said they were leaving their Royal duties to pursue.
I wasn’t impressed with them at that point but didn’t feel anything much about them except being somewhat annoyed and disappointed in them. Then that interview dropped…. I am not a Brit but I understand enough of how the monarchy works that I knew instantly that so much of what they said was nothing but a clever manipulation of facts to get the American public on their side by casting them as victims.
I pride myself on being a logical, rational thinker and their story was full of holes, FULL. They now have lost all credibility with me and I am completely ashamed of them and hope they never set foot in Canada again personally.
It’s bad enough that they are dishonest but then they also did this when Prince Philip, 99 years old, was in dire health in hospital and the Queen is about to be 95 and is in the 70th year of her reign. It’s completely shameful in my opinion.
They are dishonest, attention-seeking, and looking to use their titles to enrich themselves and I can never believe anything they say at this point. I wish to God the Queen would remove all their titles as they don’t deserve to keep them.
