Allan:
I understand that the Beatles made a minimum of $100 million in 2020.
They actually had the best selling record in the U.S.—outselling Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and every other contemporary artist.
The number one album was the 50th Anniversary edition of “Abbey Road.” (Side 2 of Abbey Road was the greatest swan song ever...., for any group! -Allan)
The retail price of the physical recording ranged from about $19.98 for a single CD version to more than $109.00 for the Deluxe 50th Anniversary 3 vinyl discs set.
The Beatles make a royalty of about 20% of the retail price on any recordings. So, they made up to $22 dollars on a single recording (the Deluxe set). It would take thousands of streams of the entire album to make that kind of royalty.
Another of the top 100 recordings in 2020 was the Beatles “1.” That recording was THJE best-selling recording between the years 2000 and 2010, and, here it is, still a best seller.
The Beatles made about $25 million per year in the last years of the 1960’s. That would be about $250 million nowadays. So, they’re not making the same amount of money, but they’re raking in a minimum of $100 million per year for simply releasing old material.
The money train for the Beatles is not going to end any time soon.
