Here’s how Trump’s tariffs work
Yes, the US can seriously damage Canada’s economy... and the damage to the US economy will be … equally devastating!
Here’s the thing: "There is very little that Canadians buy from the US that we can’t make at home, or that we can’t buy from friendly countries!"
Trump, on the other hand, has thoroughly fucked US-Canadian relations for the next generation... at least!
THINGS CANADIANS CAN GET AT HOME OR ELSEWHERE:
Fruits?
Vegetables?
We have our own most of the year, and we have agreements with friendly countries like Mexico... plus several countries in South America.
Canadians spend - or use to spend - more than $20 Billion on vacations in the US. (Much of it was during the winter, in Florida and Arizona!)
A tourist boycott is underway!
Air Canada is slashing its winter vacation schedules.
Mexico welcomes us!
Cuba welcomes us - "they have an entire area devoted to Canadians!"
The islands of the Caribbean welcome us, both English and French. (Turks and Caicos!!!)
Alcohol?
Canada buys more than $1 Billion of beer, wine, and spirits from the US.
Easily replaced!
Bourbon?
...Nope!
Canadian, Scotch, or Irish whiskey?
California wine?
We have the entire world to choose from!
Beer?
Seriously... American beer? 😂😂😂
Cars and car parts?
The North American car industry is a three-legged stool - Canada, the US, and Mexico.
Trump is busy sawing away at two of the legs!!!
THINGS THE US CAN’T DO WITHOUT:
Potash?
A vital component of fertilizer! The US has very little and gets nearly 90% of its supply from Canada. (The American farm lobby is shitting bricks over Trump’s Tariff Tantrum that will cost them more than $1 Billion... to be passed on to consumers!)
- Canada is the world’s #1 supplier of potash!
The US can always get a deal from the #2 supplier... Trump’s good buddy in Russia!
Oil?
That’s 22% of American thirst coming from Canada. (They can always get it from their good friends in Saudi Arabia or Venezuela! Pay a premium price, pay for transportation, and pay to retool their refineries.
Electricity?
Aluminum?
Uranium?
Nickel?
Trump is delusional if he thinks the US has everything that it needs, at a price Americans can afford!
